Brian's bicycle shop had 48 water bottles for sale, but since winter was coming he wanted to sell as many as he could. On Monday, Brian marked the water bottles down to $5.00 each and sold 1/2 of them. On Tuesday, he marked the remaining bottles down to $4.00 each and sold 1/2 of what was left. On Wednesday, he marked the remaining bottles down to $3.00 and sold 1/3 of the remaining bottles. On Thursday, Brian marked the remaining bottles down to $2.00 and sold them all. If Brian paid $4.00 each for the bottles, how much money did he gain or lose in selling these bottles? Show all the work you did to help solve the problem. Explain your reasons.
